Talks between the Federation of Newfoundland Indians (FNI) and the federal government are bogged down, which means no results in sight for those who lost their status.
Burgeo Band of Indians Chief Greg Janes (who is also a spokesperson for one of the veterans who lost their status while serving overseas) has been asking for updates on where veterans stand in the enrolment process. His requests seem to have fallen on deaf ears, and, as Liberals trail in the looming federal election, hopes for any resolution on the matter have begun to fade.
Good Afternoon, Mr.Trudeau, Ms. Bennet & Mr. O'Regan,
ReplyDeleteYes, Mr. O'Regan, is Newfoundland Mi'kmaq on your Team List? Qalipu FN needs "Stability and Certainty" and as you said to the Ontario Chiefs, " I want you to know I heard you loud and clear".
Our people hope you are now actually ready to announce that all Veterans will immediately be returned to the Founding Membership list of our Band. It remains extremely disingenuous not to see the Mi'kmaq Flag proudly displayed on the podium in partnership with NL and Canada. Of course, your Governments dealings with several of the "Original Founding Members" culled from the Herd of Qalipu First Nation is symbolic of the continuous Trudeau style of "Openness and
Transparency" that impacts true reconciliation with my people!
I have sent you all the trinkets I had accumulated during my Military career and you have NOT ACKNOWLEDGE receiving those nor have you fulfilled my numerous requests for a telephone consultation. Please phone me at 1-902-678-3939 Wela'lin,
Dennis G. Gabriel Grandson of noted Newfoundland Hunter, Trapper, Guide, and Mail carrier, Andrew Gabriel, Codroy Valley, NL Even W.E. Cormack in 1822 had the decency to acknowledge genuine Mi'kmaq peoples.
You can start your rebuilding process by getting off your butts and coming to Newfoundland to announce that the SA has been rescinded and ALL those original founding members have been fully restored to membership within Qalipu FN!
Also, please advise those attending your meetings that "Sleepy Time" will occur after they actually do something useful! Some of the folks within your photo opts are looking very disinterested! Seeing Indigenous young people yawning and nearly asleep make for Very poor optics!!!
Please quit with the "POLITICAL Pollution" and acknowledge your plans now to have all Mi'kmaq people, including Veterans, rightfully returned to the "Original Founding Members List" of Qalipu First Nations by 1 May 2019! Then again, Easter is just around the corner so why not do a true resurrection and start hopping toward helping your Newfoundland supporters who happen to be disenfranchised Mi'Kmaq?
